Did you know that Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) is the longest lake in Wales?

At approx 3.75 miles long and 0.75 miles wide we are very fortunate to have the clubhouse at one end, a weather station at the other and with the perfect SW breeze, the perfect conditions for a Windward / Leeward endurance race.

And so the Long Distance came into being! It runs over 2 days with each day targeting a 3 hours handicap race. We start in the afternoon on the Saturday to allow travelling visitors to register, then an earlier start on the Sunday so we can get you away.

Previous years have given really varied conditions across the weekend so its a great test of skills and adaptability.

We also look to provide a good race weekend for cruisers, juniors and newcomers to the endurance racing type events by offering a "capped" 1 lap class of mixed boats. We will always advise this in the NOR if we are planning to do that.

The John Hunter Trophy is awarded to the highest place Bala SC member on the Saturday from the full race.
