Race officer training
Whilst we have invested heavily over the last few years in Safety Boat cover, as with most clubs we have a definate shortfall in members comfortable running racing.
We believe in developing our members in a way that will give them the skills and confidence to run our club racing and in doing so give them the skills to able support our open events.
Our in house training (which is free to members) is informal but follows a structured path that will give someone with no Race officer expeirence, the confidence to quickly support club racing as an assistance race offer and after a couple of cycle of that, hopefully have the confidence to run club racing on their own.
A very rough syllabus includes:
- The role of the race officer
- The interaction with the safety boat team
- Setting up for the day
- Start sequence including OCS
- Recording times and laps
- Basis racing rules
- Shortening the course
- Handicap vs pursuit racing
- Suggested courses
As we have dates for 2026 agreed, we will publish them on the website.
