Brief Guide to Club Duties

Bala SC is a member run club. This means we rely on members to help in various ways to keep the club running smoothly and safely so that everyone can get the best from their membership.
We've divided the ways in which you can help into specific 'duties' and most members are expected to carry out some of these during their membership year.
The number of duties you are expected to help with depends on your type of membership and full details can be found on the website in the club Duty Policy.
Duty types
Race Officer (club events)
Suitably experienced to oversee the running of regular club racing
Opening the race office
Setting courses
Ensuring adequate safety cover in place
Recording race result
Starts: 2 hours before racing is due to commence
Race Office Assistant (club events)
This role is primarily to assist the Race Officer and with a view to gain the experience and confidence to carry out the Race Officer duty in future.
Starts: 2 hours before racing is due to commence
Safety Boat Cox
Must hold PB2 (and safety boat trained for open events)
Carry out checks as per powered boat policy
Provide safety cover for race and leisure sailors
Make sure safety boats are put away ready for next use
Starts: 2 hours before racing is due to commence
Safety Boat Crew
Help get safety boats ready and put away after use
Assists rescue and other tasks under the guidance of the Safety Boat Cox
No previous experience required but must be confident on and in the water
Starts: 2 hours before racing is due to commence
Galley Leader (daytime)
Opens up clubhouse and oversees galley
Food and Hygiene trained and responsible for food and equipment safety
Provides galley service to members and open visitors
At shutdown: galley floor and surfaces are cleaned, food stored and dishwasher stacked
Starts: 8 am
Galley Helper (daytime)
No experience required
To help with the general running of the galley and as advised by galley leader
Starts: 9:30 am
BBQ Cook / Helper (BBQ Evening)
No experience required for helper
Setup, cook and serve BBQ meals
Set up BBQ, connect gas under gazebo and put non-stick mats down
Maintain food safety and hygiene including: check food temps, cook to wear apron
At shutdown: clean, wipe down and store BBQ (when cold)
clear tables and surfaces, all used equipment in dishwasher
all bins emptied
Starts: 4:00 pm for helpers 5:00 pm for cooks
Bar Leader / Helper (evening)
No experience required for helper
Opens bar and provides bar service to members and open visitors
At shutdown: all glasses washed and put back in place, surfaces and floor to be cleaned
all bins emptied, sink cleaned and re-stock fridges
Starts: 5:00 pm
