Information for mooring boats

Bala SC Mooring Regulations

1. All moored boat owners 'moorers' are bound by the club rules and bye laws.

2. A club member on full payment of a mooring fee (renewed yearly) can be allocated a mooring, subject to availability.

3. Boat weight limit is 1 & 1/4 ton (2800 lbs) on outer trot; 1 ton ( 2240 lbs) on all other moorings.

4. A mooring consists of a numbered site with a sinker / 10 mm riser chain / swivel and buoy. A 3 ft chain is fitted as an attachment for bridle.

5. The moorer is expected to fit a bridle and pick up buoy to suit their boat when positioned approx 6 ft from riser buoy. Any length in excess will lead to crowded moorings.

6. It is the sole responsibility of the moorer to check and maintain the mooring in a safe condition. Advice is always available from the bosun.

7. Transfer / sale of moorings is not allowed, although transfer to another club member (e.g. boat sale) may be considered depending on waiting list.

8. All moorers are expected to:

      a. Launch and recover independently

      b. Access their own boat with a suitable tender (not club rescue boats)

      c. Ensure the boat and mooring are regularly inspected (check your insurance)

      d. Yearly raise upper 6 ft of riser chain in order to check security of chain and fittings

9. Owners of keel boats should remember that the lake level varies and is often lower towards the end of the season.

10.  Boats and tenders must be removed from the club at the end of the season and only returned at the start of the next. Boat are expressly prohibited from occupying berths outside of the club season.

11. Electric engines are permitted, petrol & diesel are not (as per lake regulations).

12 No boats are to be used for cooking, sleeping / accommodation or fitted with a toilet facility.

13. Bala SC accepts no liability for the condition or suitability of your boat.

14. We have limited space on the foreshore so please speak to the beach master if you wish to leave your trailer. Tenders should be chained to trailers.

If you would like to apply for a mooring:

1. Use the contact form on the website using the subject 'moorings', this will be forwarded to the bosun. Please provide your full name and phone number together with your boat details (manufacturer / type / identifying name / weight in lbs).

2. Depending on availability, you will be allocated a mooring or placed on the waiting list

3. Mooring applications are considered in the following order:

   a. Existing moorers will automatically keep their mooring on renewal of membership and payment of mooring fee.

   b. New moorers will be allocated a mooring strictly according to their position on the waiting list.
