Junior Committee (launch)

Bala SC has continued to make good and steady progress in energising its youth membership. This was apparent during the 2025 season which saw a hugely successful and well attended youth training program as well as an increased involvement in club racing. In order to maintain momentum in this pipeline, the club would like to consider setting up a junior committee and pilot it for a 1 year season (2026).
Purpose of the Junior Committee:
- Provide a platform your junior members to contribute to the direction and strategy of the club
- Support the clubs diversity and inclusion policy by ensuring that all sectors of the club have representation
- Create an opportunity for junior members to develop life skills outside of on water activities by experiencing organisational hierarchies and working models they may not normally come into contact with
Roles:
Junior Commodore
To provide a single point of contact and represent the desired strategy and direction of the junior membership within the club. Be the mechanism to increase the junior membership and target long term retention.
Junior Sailing Captain
To work with the Adult Sailing Captain to ensure club racing incorporates the requirements and considerations of the junior members
Junior General Member (B&B)
To work with the Boson and Beachmaster to both learn, support and gain an understanding of the roles as well and introducing and influencing the needs of the junior members in these areas
Junior General Member (T&D)
To work with the training and development / coaching committee members to ensure that the overall program (formal and informal) supports the junior members. Identify pathway schemes for young members and influence the direction of activities and sailing craft / assets to support this
Operating Model:
- The junior committee will sit on a monthly basis for 1 hour
- Meeting will be via a Zoom call
- A standard agenda will be created to create structure
- The meeting will be supported by the Commodore and Minutes Secretary from the main adult committee
- Commodore will support the Junior Commodore in running the meeting until such time that the Junior Commodore has the confidence to run the meeting themselves
- The minutes secretary will provide ongoing support in capturing, creating and circulating minutes
- Key points fed into the main committee via the Commodore report
Election Process:
- All junior members from 2025 to be contacted via their parents advising of the proposal
- Junior members who are planning to rejoin for 2026 will be invited to apply
- Names to be put forward with proposer as parent via email to Commodore
- Commodore will circulate to committee. All candidates to be seconded by one committee member
- If more than one person stands for a role other than Junior Commodore, then an election will be held
- Committee members will be asked to provide their preferred candidate to the Commodore in closed email

- Full committee will be informed of outcome but not individual votes
