PROVISIONAL..............
Hi Everybody,
Mike has been working hard to finalise the 2025 club racing calendar and approach and we wanted to get the basics out as quickly as possible to get everyone in the mood so here goes!
- Club racing will continue to be scheduled on a Sunday with a morning session, break for lunch and then an afternoon session
- It will commence on 30/3/25 and conclude on 5/10/25
- The morning session will be 3 handicap races (not 2 as per previously) for a short series (see below) and the afternoon session will a single pursuit race for the Champion Helm
- There will be a casual 2 day club regatta on 11th and 12th October and then on the Sunday of any weekend following that based on conditions a single days varied format racing
- The morning sessions will consist of:
- a) Pen Y Bont Vase as a Short Shakedown series of 4 weeks from 30/3 to 27/4 b) Commodore Cup of 8 weeks from 4/5 to 29/6 c) Stewards Trophy of 6 weeks from 13/7 to 17/8 d) Final Fling of 5 weeks from 7/9 to 5/10
- The afternoon session will be the Champion Helm which will run from 30/3 to 5/10. This will have an overal winner as well as the re-instatement of the Gary Darch Junior Champion Helm Trophy for any competitor under 18 on the 1st Jan of subs year
- Any person doing a duty (Race Officer, Assistant Race Officer, Safety Boat Cox or Safety Boat Assistant) who would otherwise be a participating in that series will be awarded average points for each race on that day at a maximum of one occurrence per race series
- Morning racing to move to a 11:00 start and will be a fixed format as follows:
- Race 1 - short sprint, 1 lap c 20 minutes
- Race 2 - Windward/Leeward c45 mins
- Race 3 - Round the cans c 45 mins
- As well as an overal series winner, we will continue this year awarding highest place (in each series) to
- Veteran (over 60 on 1st Jan subs year)
- Youth (Under 18 on 1st Jan subs year)
- Female helm or crew
- Results for the morning series racing (not the Champion Helm) will now be split by Single Hull/Dinghy and Multihulls allowing the re-engaged multihull fleet to have a separate competitive element
- For the morning series, a 10% credit on the PY will be given to any Junior and any person competing in their first year of racing. The later will be offered on a "trust basis". On the event of these parties taking a 1st place in any race, their subsequent races will then revert to their standard PY. This will not be applied to the Champion Helm
- For all races, the entry in a series will be by person/boat. Vessel changes during the year will create a new series entry for that person and results can not be carried across
We will also be re-instating the two challenges we held in 2023 but with an improved approach based on our learnings and feedback....
The 5-4-1 and long distance challenges are open challenges which can be undertaken by any member in any boat as many times as they like on any day throughout the year. The basic rules are as follows:
- They are self timed, you do the run, record your time and whatsapp it into the club admin
- Both will now be adjusted for PY. No discount will be given
- There will be no end of year shoot out, just a running leader board closed at the end of the season (5/10)
- Courses can be reversed in the event of a different prevailing wind direction
- The courses are as follows:
- For the 5-4-1 challenge
- X-5s-4s-1s-X for the 5-4-1 course OR X-1p-4p-5-X
- For the long distance challenge
- X-Weather Station s-1s-X OR X-1p-Weather Station p-X
- For the 5-4-1 challenge
I hope this gives an early indication of the 2025 season.
Thanks as always,
Rob
