Successful first Paddle Event of 2026

Hello everyone,

We had a modest but successful start to our 2026 Kayak and Paddleboard schedule of events last Saturday (June 13th). It was great to kick off things in a challenging and bracing style.  Seven paddlers braved the harsh westerly and choppy conditions to head upwind, with the intentionally optimistic target of reaching Pant yr Onnen over two miles away. 

I must admit, I secretly doubted our ability to reach the campsite given the winds and large waves hitting us.  My own decision to wear a shorty wetsuit was feeling more foolish as the minutes went by.  However, the chat was good, and the spirits were high as we finally made it to the shore of the camp, safe in the knowledge that the strong winds would practically blow us back to base. 

All in all, a 4 mile round trip, some great exercise, a few hours on the water, and a chance to have a good chat with some other members. The safety boat had no one to rescue, which is always a result, but their presence was definitely appreciated and reassuring.

The next event is the fun race on Saturday July 18th at 10am. It's a self timed course around the 5-4-1 markers.  Even though this is a race, it's a social event, and hopefully a good chance for members to get to know each other.
