Announcement - Catamaran Open 2025

With around 3.75 miles in lenght and 0.75 miles wide and a good SW coming straight down the lake, there are few better places in North Wales to stretch the legs on a Multihull. Add to that the incredible scenery and the friendly nature of Bala SC's volunteer ran club (yep, we are a private sailing club and not a business), you have the making of an incredible event.

Many years ago, the Bala Catamaran Club moved home from the other end of the lake to join us and since then we have maintained a small core group of members keeping this fleet alive. The annual Catamaran Open was always a popular event at Bala SC but post Covid we saw numbers reduce so in 2024 we decided to give it a rest year and focus on introducing our existing members to Catamarans via a series of taster days. This has been really successful and so when planning the 2025 calendar we put the Catamaran Open back on the calendar trying to avoid other events which we knew about.

We have decided to run the event on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July 2025.

The normal format of the event is 2 days of racing (Saturday - 1pm start and Sunday- 11am start) with 3 races per day. As a friendly local sailing club we are keen to encourage all levels of racing and Multihull experience and regularly will have newcomers to the class competing against much more seasoned (and faster) crews.

We have a strong fleet of Dart 16s at the club along with some Catapults, Spitfires and a few Dart 15's. Expect to see a possible Hurricane and some members may dust off their Nacras and get some time in with those.
